£47,000 TO FURTHER DEVELOP SERVICES TO VISUALLY IMPAIRED CHILDREN & YOUNG PEOPLE
Cllr. Richard Harker said, “I am pleased that the work we already do has been recognised in this way. The service that we provide for our visually impared children and young people here in Leeds will benefit from this extra cash.”
The opportunities for children and young people with a visual impairment in Leeds, as well as in Europe will be further developed by the Education Leeds visually impaired team. The visually impaired team has been awarded £47,000 from the Children Leeds Innovation Fund.
The funding will be used to build on the on existing success and good practice of the ‘No Limits’ programme. ‘ No Limits’ provides the opportunity for children and young people with a visual impairment to take part is activities that they would not normally get the chance to, for example sports such as gymnastics, boxing, ju jitsu, and specialist goalball.
Visually impaired children of British servicemen and women abroad will also be supported by the Education Leeds, visually impaired team. The team have been awarded a contract over the next two terms, to travel to Germany, Gibraltar and Cyprus to support the children and their families.
